The World University Service (WUS) is an international, non-governmental organisation with national
committees and bureaus in over 50 countries over the world. It was founded after the first world war, in
1920, in Vienna as the ‘European Student Relief Fund’ and considered itself to be an organisation of
academic staff to support people who work, teach and learn in an academic environment.
WUS is involved in all levels of education and further advocates for human rights worldwide, particularly with
respect to education. WUS is recognized as a consultative organization by the United Nations and
UNESCO.
