WUS-Romania was founded in July 1999, as a non-registered association, and is now, since May 2008, a

registered NGO. In this case we are talking (after Bosnia-Hertegovina) about the second

foundation of a World University Service bureau in one of the former eastblock-countries. The WUS

bureaus are as far as possible independent, they finance their activity on their own.

The members of WUS-Romania are mainly students, alumni and university professors. The WUS-Romania

President represents the organisation on the inside and on the outside. The daily work is carried out on

a voluntary basis, most of our activity is carried out in partnership with other institutions.

Hans-Joachim Hug was the founder of WUS-Romania which he ruled as president until 2008.

In 2008, with the support and partnership of WUS-Austria, we registered as a Romanian NGO, with prof.

Wolfgang Benedek from University of Graz, Austria, as president.

In 2018, the presidency of the association was taken over by prof. Mariana Mocanu from University

POLITEHNICA of Bucharest.
